ESPR: Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, the EU law behind the Digital Product Passport.
DPP: Digital Product Passport: a digital record of a product's materials, origin and lifecycle data.
Traceability: The ability to follow a product and its materials back through each stage of the supply chain.
Data provenance: A record of where a piece of data came from and who supplied it.
Digital twin: A digital representation of a physical product, linked to it through an identifier.

Which guides should an exporter read first?

Start with the master guide, A1: EU Digital Product Passport Guide for Asian Textile Exporters. Then use the ESPR Readiness Checklist (A2) and the Textile DPP Data Fields Checklist (A3) to find your gaps, and the guide for the country you export from.

When will the Digital Product Passport apply to textiles?

ESPR, Regulation (EU) 2024/1781, entered into force on 18 July 2024, and textiles and apparel are a priority product group. The textile delegated act that sets the exact data, format and scope is expected in 2027, and delegated acts usually allow around 18 months between adoption and application. For most exporters, the practical deadline is when their largest EU buyer starts asking.

Does the EU require blockchain for Digital Product Passports?

No. ESPR requires passports to be interoperable and requires passport data to be accurate, reliable and protected against unauthorised change, but it does not require any particular technology. Blockchain-based systems are one practical way to meet these requirements because they create a tamper-evident record of who added what data and when. That is the approach StableDPP takes.

How often are the guides reviewed?

Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed. We review the guides as the textile delegated act and related EU rules develop, and update expected dates when they change.
